The Bulls entertain Wrexham at Edgar Street on Tuesday night, with both sides eager for three points.
Anything but a win will relegate Wrexham who have not won a League match at Edgar Street in seven attempts. Their last triumph was in February 1988, when former Bulls forward Ollie Kearns scored his first goals for his new side after leaving the Bulls two months before. The last two games between the sides have ended up as 2-0 wins for the Bulls, with Kris Taylor and Trevor Benjamin scoring at the Racecourse back in September.
The Bulls need goals. Fast. Eight goals in the last eleven games is not the form needed for automatic promotion, and it certainly won't breed confidence in a play-off scenario. Without Gary Hooper, our main trio of strikers haven't scored for a collective 43 games. Hooper has scored four of the eight goals in the current run, with two more coming from own goals. Trevor Benjamin's return to first team action on Saturday is a welcome boost to the attacking options that looked so fruitful before Christmas, and a repeat of his goal in the reverse fixture will be gratefully received by Bulls fans.
Wrexham's narrow escape last season will not be repeated if they fail to get all three points. They have used 39 players so far this season, and made six changes to the starting line-up between losing heaving to free-falling Shrewsbury and their narrow win over Notts County. Eight of that new side came from their youth set-up, including Bulls target Matt Done, to provide their first win in eight games. Even 11 goal top scorer Michael Proctor was forced to watch the game as an unused sub after being deemed as one of many underperforming experienced heads in the side.
