Penney Has Limited Options

Speaking to the Darlington and Stockton Times, Quakers boss Dave Penney admitted that he would have brought more loan players in if he had known how bad their injury crisis was going to get:

"It's scary the number of injuries we've had, and they're all to key players. They're all senior pros. We've used more players than anyone apart from Wrexham, but we've got to deal with it and the team that was out there was more than strong enough but we didn't have the options on the bench to change.

"I'm limited in what I can do. I would've been in the loan market a long time ago if it was possible. When the window closed on making loans we had a strong squad, or certainly enough to give us options. Pawel Abbott was due back from injury and so was Richie Foran so we thought we'd have them for the rest of the season. But they've both since got injured again and we've also now got Gregg Blundell, Guy and Julian injured.

"Julian's been excellent and he's been one of the options to use up front. He'll be out hopefully for no more than two or three weeks but we need to get some bodies back to give us some options. Hopefully Guy will be back on Saturday. I'm not sure what we would have done if Tommy (Wright) hadn't played. We probably would have played Julian on his own up front in a 4-5-1.

"Tommy was only about 75 per cent fit but he was excellent. He's a big tough boy and he could see we were struggling with numbers."
