Paul Parry (pictured in 2003 at Edgar Street) is hoping that his former club, Hereford United, defeat Tranmere next Wednesday in the third round FA Cup replay at Edgar Street so he can return to Hereford with Cardiff City for the fourth round.
“There’s no reason why they can’t beat Tranmere and I’ll be rooting for them because I have some great memories of my time there," he told Wales on Sunday.
“I spent seven years there, albeit in the Conference, but it was a good time for me.
“Hopefully I can get the chance to go back and they’ve got a good chance of winning the replay on their own patch.
“Hereford always seem to have done well in the cup; it goes back to Ronnie Radford. And I was part of the side that drew with Leicester when we got to the third round.
“They have a good cup tradition but if we get them hopefully we won’t be another name to add to their list.”
Parry paid a tribute to his former manager and club.
“He gave me my chance so I owe a lot to him. He used to keep telling me that my big chance would come.
“There were a couple of other clubs who showed an interest but they didn’t move for me and he would keep telling me to be patient and that if I kept playing my football I’d get my big break.
“Then Cardiff came in and he was delighted for me.
“I haven’t spoken to him for a couple of seasons but I think it must be nice for him to see me do well.
“It would be great to go back there and catch up.”
