Former Tranmere goalkeeper Eric Nixon, in his column for the Liverpool Echo, was impressed with the Bulls, and Wayne Brown, in the first match with Rovers:
"I was impressed with Graham Turner's team, who were well organised and played some good football. I could see why they are occupying one of the automatic promotion spots in League Two. I could also see why Steve Jennings benefited from his 11 games on loan to Hereford in the second half of last season.
"I thought it was a terrific cup tie. In fact it was just what I was hoping to see after reading some of these puzzling comments from young Premiership players about the FA Cup being a second-rate competition. If anyone has any doubt about the special appeal of the Cup, they should have been at Prenton Park.
"I give Tranmere credit for twice coming back from a goal down to level the scores. On the balance of the play - about 60/40 in Tranmere's favour on my reckoning - they deserved to win the game. They certainly had the better chances - and more of them.
"Hereford's keeper, Wayne Brown, made a couple of excellent saves and played well. I can remember Wayne being at Chester City a few years ago. I have always rated him a good keeper in the lower divisions. I don't think he always got the credit he deserved at Chester."
