Here's a report from the Daily Mail on this evening's Cup Game at Edgar Street.
Simon Johnson evoked memories of past glory days at Edgar Street with one of the goals of the third round.
The Hereford winger claimed the decisive strike in a tight game following a superb piece of individual skill.
The home side had huffed and puffed without too much success until the wide man picked up the ball 40 yards from goal.
He twisted past two defenders before drilling a magnificent 25-yard drive into the bottom corner of Danny Coyne's net.
On a day when Newcastle were making all the headlines, thoughts drifted back to that infamous fixture in 1972 that planted Hereford's name indelibly into the folklore of this competition.
But Johnson's strike was every bit as good as Ronnie Radford's firecracker that, along with Ricky George's goal, dumped Newcastle out of the FA Cup 36 years ago.
Tranmere were left ruing a string of missed chances. Striker Calvin Zola was the culprit-in-chief. He hit the bar after a neat turn just seconds before Johnson broke the deadlock.
But Zola, a pale imitation of his namesake, saw home keeper Wayne Brown deny him bravely on at least two more occasions as the hosts booked themselves a fourth round tie at home to Cardiff.
After securing a thoroughly creditable draw at Prenton Park, Hereford had maintained a run that had seen them lose just once in their last 17 outings.
And although the home side currently lie second in Coca-Cola League Two, there was little indication that an upset would be on the cards at the halfway stage.
Jennison Myre-Williams crashed a ninth-minute shot against the upright after Rovers took a quick free-kick.
But, largely thanks to Brown's goalkeeping heroics, saving again from Myre-Williams, Hereford are through to the last 32.
