Adults will pay £10 and concessions £5 for admission to the Carling Cup game at St Andrews next Tuesday. However as the statement below shows Birmingham think the prices are too high.
Birmingham City Football Club is extremely disappointed that the Football League has today dictated the pricing to the club for our forthcoming Carling Cup fixture vs Hereford United -higher than the club had proposed.
The club would have liked to have given supporters the chance to come to the game at a discounted rate as this is a mid-week game, and at the end of the school holidays.
Therefore we had proposed to charge season ticket holders of both Hereford and Blues £5 for adults and £2 for concessions and our non-season ticket holders £10 adults and £2 concessions.
Unfortunately Hereford United did not agree to this pricing on the basis that 'they would not make any money out of this'
Therefore this matter had to be resolved by the Football League, which resulted in the club being instructed that the prices must be £10 for adults and £5 concessions.
Blues Managing Director Karren Brady said: "Birmingham City FC, as a large city centre club, takes great pride in being able to offer reduced priced ticket for all games; we understand that for families football is expensive.
"We are the second cheapest club in the Premier League (some Premier League games are only £15 adults and £5 kids in all areas, and kids under 12 can buy season ticket for £99) and in an age where we are campaigning for cheap prices the League are not helping us which is extremely disappointing.
"I hope that Coca Cola, as the sponsors of the Football League, and also as a family brand, put pressure on the League to get the grounds full of families and kids enjoying a night out for this stage of the competition, surely that's better than having thousands of empty seats?
"The club is outraged at the outcome of this matter especially at being dictated to about the price we implement for our home fixture.
"Therefore the club has no alternative but to sell the game at £10 adults £5 concessions."
