New tracksuits for Bulls Youth Squad

Brand new tracksuits are on the way for the Hereford United Youth Team (pictured) as a direct result of support from Bulls News.

Over recent seasons Bulls News has sponsored a player at Edgar Street but after discussions with Colin Williams, who helps run the Youth team, it was decided to help them.

Recently there have been some changes to how the Youth Team is run. Colin Williams explains:

The Youth Team is now run through Hereford College of Technology and is based at the Holme Lacy Campus. This is a way many Conference Clubs run their Youth Set Up's and also a few Football League Clubs. The players are signed on Football League Forms but this does not have the same tie to the club as a scholarship form or extended Centre of Excellence form, clubs only have to give 7 days notice of approach. If players were on Scholarship forms they would have to be part of the Football League Education Programme which is mainly NVQ based.

The Youth players at HUFC study a BTEC in Sport and this can enable them to then go onto University. The players train three mornings a week alongside their academic studies. Players must complete their course whereas in the Scholarship Scheme many are released before completing their studies. If Graham Turner wishes to take on a Youth Team Player he has to offer them a contract as he did with Andy Williams and Sam Gwynne.

Meanwhile Graham Turner has told Bulls News that 'it is intended that over the next 12/18 months we will be looking into the implications of investing in a Centre of Excellence again'.

Finally Hereford's youth team travel to Merthyr for a friendly on Monday evening. The kick-off is at 7pm.
