Cottee remembers Parry in Cup

Paul Parry was featured in the preview of the Cardiff/Portsmouth Carling Cup game this evening on Sky. He rise from Hereford United was mentioned, but perhaps the most interesting words came from one of the panel.

The former Leicester player, Tony Cottee, now one of the regular Sky sports team, told viewers about his encounters with former Hereford United player, Paul Parry.

Cottee played against Parry when the two met in late 1999 in the FA Cup. Hereford drew 0-0 with Leicester at Edgar Street but were beaten in the replay.

"He was absolutely outstanding. He tore us to pieces. Bearing in mind they were non-league and we were a premiership side. It was Paul Parry, fantastic player. Played well in the replay as well.

"He was one of those guys you looked at and you thought he could make the step up and I'm really pleased for him because I love to see kids who can go from the non-league and work their way up.

"He's playing for Wales now as well."

"It's just being given the opportunity. Great story" commented Alan Mullery.

"He's a cracking player. Left foot player," said Cottee."Why didn't anybody pick him up earlier."?
