Smith gets two year deal

Ben Smith has been given a two-year deal at Shrewsbury. The 25 year old midfielder is their second signing of the summer reports the Shropshire Star.

Smith is reunited with Shrewsbury manager Jimmy Quinn who worked with him when he was a youngster at Reading in the mid 1990s.

ShrewsWeb has reported assistant manager Dave Cooke words about the new signing: "Ben adds a bit more strength and depth to the midfield, and hopefully he can continue the rich scoring form that he's shown this season.

"We've managed to bring Ben in even though there was stiff competition from Chester and a number of other 3rd division clubs.

"Ben came in, saw the club and was impressed with the ambition of Shrewsbury Town and of Jimmy Quinn.

"He will be a good addition to the squad and will bolster the midfield, and that's good news for next season."
