Three ex-United men in Trophy final
Brian McGorry, the former Hereford United midfielder, Graham Turner's son Mark, and Rob Warner, Tamworth's right-back, played in today's FA Trophy final at Villa Park, but were defeated 2-1.
The three were in the United squad relegated from the Football League in 1997, but will return to the Conference as Tamworth were promoted from the Dr. Martens League this year. However, it was Burscough who emerged victorious.
Former Notts County and Telford United attacker Gary Martindale gave the Lancastrians the lead in the first half, and doubled the advantage just after the restart. Tamworth skipper Mark Cooper pulled a goal back with eleven minutes to go, but it was too little too late.
Personal trainer McGorry and Warner started the match, with Turner featuring as a second-half substitute.
The attendance of 14,265 was the fifth lowest for a Trophy final since its inception in 1970.
