Jukes goes to Telford

Former Shrewsbury, Walsall and Wolves scout Ron Jukes has been at Hereford for the last five years but revealed he had left Edgar Street because of the exciting potential of Telford, reports the Shropshire Star.

He said: "This is another Rushden & Diamonds and it might even be better than that. I was invited to come along and I said yes, it is as simple as that.

"The distance to Hereford was getting a bit too much and I'm really glad to be here. It should be a very exciting time for the club."

Andy Shaw, chairman of Telford, has had a busy day as former Brunei manager Mick Jones takes over as boss at the New Bucks Head. He said of Jukes, who joins the club as a chief scout and director: "Ron is somebody I have always admired and I have mentioned to the board over the last two years that I would like to get him on board in some capacity.

"To be honest I was not sure he would join us but I have been speaking to him over the last few days and was delighted that he wanted to come forward.

"He knows the game inside out and it is a great appointment for the club. He might not always get it right but he will give 110 per cent and more and I am sure he will work well with Mick (Jones)."

Mick Jones talked about Ron Jukes on BBC Radio Shropshire. He said " one of the conditions (I came as manager) was that Jukes was on board as part of the team because Ron and I have been close colleagues for a lot of years now and he is going to be vital to the rebuilding plans because we have only got one player at the moment so Ron has got a lot of work to do."

"There is a list of players, Ron and I have sat down and talked about that" including last seasons players" because Ron and I know about them."
