Hereford defeated by Yeovil
Hereford were defeated 4-0 by Yeovil this afternoon in front of a crowd of over 6,000. The Bulls were down to ten men when John Grant was sent off in the middle of the first half. To make matters even worse, Captain Tony James was also sent off just before the end of the game.
Yeovil
Town 4 - 0 Hereford United
Former Hereford United star Michael
McIndoe rounded off a truly awful day for the Bulls as he
scored Yeovil Town's fourth from the penalty spot in
added time.
Yeovil substitute Kim Grant was tackled from behind by Tony James, who was sent off for the offence, and McIndoe stepped up to slot the ball into the bottom corner.
That concluded a day for United where they lost John Grant as he was also red-carded, and conceded another three goals.
In the first minute, a tricky Kirk Jackson header was turned around the post by Matt Baker, who played well to keep Yeovil at bay in the early stages. However, a deep free kick was flicked on to find Adam Lockwood on twenty four minutes, who headed home from close range to hand the home side the lead.
Then on thirty three minutes, United midfielder Danny Williams was fouled on the edge of the box and, almost instantly, a crowd of players surrounded him. John Grant appeared to go charging into the melee and after much deliberation with his assistants, the referee Mr. Steve Dorr of Worcester sent off Grant and gave Yeovil skipper Terry Skiverton a yellow card. Ben Smith also picked up a booking for his complaints.
After the break, Hereford improved and Paul Parry's shot from just outside the box was tipped over by Yeovil's young stopper Chris Weale. Steve Guinan struck narrowly wide on seventy three minutes, but two goals in as many minutes put an end to any hopes for Hereford. Firstly, Michael McIndoe released Kevin Gall on seventy six, and he fired the ball into the far corner, and a minute later Gall turned provider when he crossed from the Yeovil left to Kirk Jackson, who was unmarked in the six yard box and turned the ball home.
Rob Purdie and, more notably, Matt Clarke, made late substitute appearances for United but McIndoe's late penalty and Tony James' sending off finished off a thoroughly rotten day for Hereford.
