Football Club Commentator Sacked

Weymouth FC have sacked their football commentator after he wasn't too pleased about recent results.

He had a go in particular at the club's directors following a 2-0 defeat by local rivals Wimborne.

Ben Ashelford was speaking on the radio station owned by the cub.

“You’ve done this, six years of abject c***.

“I’m deadly serious as well. I would invite any member of the board of directors on to a podcast – come on and debate me.

“I’ll tell you the truth but I suspect there’s not a set of nuts between you so we both know it’s not going to happen."

Weymouth, who are currently managed by former Salisbury manager Steve Claridge, have dropped down from the National League to the Southern Premier League.

The club released a statement.

“Following a review of this week’s radio commentary, Weymouth Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Ben Ashelford.

“Ben will no longer be commentating on matches or participating in any official club activities.

“While we recognise that football often evokes passionate opinions, we are disappointed by the tone and content of Ben’s recent remarks, as well as the subsequent misrepresentation of events."

Not all Weymouth supporters agree with the decision to part company with Ashelford.

Stuart Puckett said: “Ben only stated the truth. I listen to most away games and find Ben very unbiased. Had the board met with Ben I am sure a better outcome would have been reached.”
