News round up

Montel Gibson has been named in the Northern Premier League Premier Division's team of the season

Montel Gibson, who joined Matlock Town from Hereford for an undisclosed fee after just three months at Edgar Street last season, has been named in the Northern Premier League Premier Division team of the season.

Work commitments were cited as the reason for his sudden departure. Earlier this summer, a week after having his contract terminated by mutual consent, he re-signed for the relegated side, having finished the season as top scorer, netting 22 times in 37 appearances.

Leamington have managed to retain defender Dan Meredith, a multiple player of the season award winner and fans favourite, for a sixth season. There was reportedly interest from National League sides for his signature, but the 25-year-old, who initially linked up with Brakes on loan from West Bromwich Albion in early 2020, has stayed with Leamington at step two.

Hereford-born midfielder Aaron Wildig has turned down a deal at League Two Newport County, quit full-time football and dropped down three divisions to take up a player-coach role with Southern League Premier Division South side Gloucester City.

The 33-year-old ex-Cardiff City youngster, who also played for Hamilton Academicals in Scotland, Shrewsbury and has decided to pursue a part-time football career as well as a "business opportunity" away from the game.

The ex-Cardiff City player, who is based in Hereford and is a UEFA A licence coach, spent three years at County after joining from Morecambe in 2022 and made 90 appearances for the Exiles. A knee injury ruled him out of the majority of last season.

Brackley Town's first signing of the summer is central defender Kyle Morrison.

The 29-year-old joins from Kidderminster Harriers, where Brackley said he played a key role in their defence. The club said he is known for his strength, composure on the ball, and leadership at the back, Morrison brings a wealth of experience and quality to the Saints’ defensive ranks.

King's Lynn Town have signed 26-year-old midfielder Jack Lambert after he was released by Chester. The club said he brings a wealth of experience to the new-looking Lynn side, playing at Chester, Darlington and Kidderminster – as well as breaking through at Scunthorpe’s U23 side and Dundee’s U20/reserve side.

Jack is primarily a 10, but also can play on the right and plays with a lot of creativity and expression.
