Three of the iconic floodlight towers at Edgar Street are expected to be demolished but a fourth one may be saved.
Hereford FC recently said that its new LED floodlights which are currently on the original towers will be sited on new columns during the summer. So the big steel towers will be redundant.
The operators EE and 3 have been given notice to quit the south west tower they currently use but they have put in a planning application to put equipment on the North West tower which is the one between the Len Weston Stand and the Meadow End of the football stadium.
'Application for prior notification of proposed development by telecommunications code systems operators. NTQ Proposed telecommunications installation. Proposed telecommunications installation. Proposed 6No. Antenna Apertures at 0°/120°/240° & 4No. 600Ø Dishes to be installed on new Crow’s Nest Platform at top of Tower (details TBC). RRU'S, BOB'S and active routers to be fixed to perimeter handrail and associated ancillary works.'
“This new equipment is urgently required to maintain coverage,” according to the agent Guy de Rose as quoted by the Hereford Times.
He added that the existing equipment “is dilapidated and no longer meets operational requirements”.
