How many points for a play-off place as Hereford head into final 12 games?

Supporters have been asking how many points would be enough for Hereford to secure a play-off place this season.

While that might be hard to predict, 75 points were enough last season and only 68 (with goal difference) the season before.

For 2021/22, there were only 22 teams in the league so 63 was enough to secure a top seven finish.

So far this season with 12 games to play, Hereford have chalked up 59 points out of a possible 102, with another 36 to play for.

Should Hereford therefore pick up 16 points from their final 12 games, they would reach 75 which, you would hope, would be enough to keep promotion hopes alive past the end of April.

According to Football Web Pages' predicted final table, Hereford will finish fifth with a staggering 82 points.

Hereford would want to get points on the board sooner rather than later though as April looks like it could be a tough month. Among the fixtures will be the visit of Chester, currently top, at the beginning of the month before a trip to Aggborough on the penultimate day of the season.

While it might appear Phil Brown has lost the Kidderminster Harriers' dressing room currently with a bizarre and scathing post-match interview on Saturday, they remain one of the best teams, if not the best, the Bulls have played this season in Boxing Day's resounding 3-0 defeat at home. They currently lie one point and one place outside the top seven.

The final day of the season, a home tie against Scunthorpe United should also be tough. While Hereford did well to draw on the road in December, the Iron will also be hoping for promotion back to non-league's top flight and currently sit second, three points behind the leaders.

Bearing all of that in mind, you'd hope for three points against Marine, Rushall Olympic, Scarborough, Farsley Celtic, Oxford City and Leamington, all currently in the bottom half of the table, that would make a total of 18 points.

Then if there were draws against Buxton and Darlington, that would take the tally to 19 and the total points on the board to 78.

That should be enough for a play-off place and allow for defeats against promotion hopefuls Curzon Ashton, Chester, Kidderminster Harriers and Scunthorpe United.
