Richard Tomkins, chairman of HUST, has reacted to the rejection by shareholders of the resolution to change the club's name from Hereford FC to Hereford United.
"We're in a peculiar position," said Tomkins.
"297000 votes in favour, 270000 against.
"Whilst that is a 51% in favour, the resolution required 75% so it failed.
"It's unfortunate that a small number of individuals would have you believe that a larger number is somehow unrepresentative under current club rules.
"An all fans vote is not legally binding, at best it is purely advisory. The club is not mandated to act on it.
"But whatever happens from now on the return of one of football's most famous names is on the lips of every supporter.
"Merry Christmas."
