Whilst the resolution to change the name of the club from Hereford FC to Hereford United failed at the special general meeting this evening, there's little doubt that a name change is still on the agenda of many supporters.
The resolution contained the wording 'with immediate effect' which if passed would have committed the club applying to the FA by the end of the month to ensure it would be Hereford United playing next season.
With hindsight this was probably a mistake as it would have given the club little time to discuss how to progress.
Had the resolution contained the words as soon as practical or something similar it might have had more support.
However during the meeting there was quite a lot of discussion about how to gauge supporters views about a possible name change. It was felt by some that the recent polling was from too small a sample
Several suggestions were put foward including a poll of season ticket holders. Some thought this would be unfair on those who attend regularily but are not season ticket holders.
There was also a discussion about the cost of any name change. Whilst there was no definite committment to look into this, the impression given was if another resolution to change the clubs name was put forward then the club would release their view of the costs and implications.
HUST and Bring Back United will need to figure out what to do next. What seems certain is that they will be back with another resolution to change the clubs name sometime in the near future.
