Hereford sign centre-back after Kidderminster Harriers release

Paul Caddis has moved to bolster his back-line as the start of the new National League North season approaches.

Centre-back Matt Preston has signed for Hereford after being released by relegated Kidderminster Harriers earlier this summer.

The 29-year-old Birmingham-born defender started his career at Walsall where he made more than 40 appearances for the League One side.

He then moved to Swindon, Mansfield Town and Barnet to rack-up more than 100 Football League appearances before joining Solihull Moors.

With the Moors, he gained National League North experience with Kidderminster and Brackley Town, before a permanent move to Aggborough last summer for their brief stint in non-league's top flight.

Speaking to the official club website, Paul Caddis said: “Matt is a player who has experience at the level and above. He is someone I am really pleased to get into the building and to fight off the competition for his signature is a big coup for us.

"He will fit into the group we are building perfectly and with the attributes he brings to the team defensively makes me really pleased Matty has decided to join us.”

Having played in Harriers’ fourth round FA Cup tie against Premier League side West Ham United, where he was awarded the BBC Man of the Match award by pundit Dion Dublin, his loan was cut short after picking up a serious ankle injury.

The match against Alfreton Town was abandoned due to the injury.

Preston's name can now be added to Hereford's list of defenders for the coming season along with Aaron Skinner, Lewis Hudson, Kyle Howkins and Mark Derricott.
