'Hungry Gowling' ready for the next challenge

Former Hereford manager Josh Gowling says he doesn't need a break, and is ready for the next challenge.

The 39-year-old, who departed Edgar Street following last week's defeat at Farsley Celtic, has told the Non-League Paper that it's just a case of waiting for the right project.

"People have said, 'take a break and re-evaluate what you want and to do next'," said Gowling.

I don't need a break. I am hungry to get back into an environment that matches my ambition.

"I have been in a privileged position for the last four years at a football club as a young manager - the average manager lifespan is about 18 months so I fortunate for that. But I am hungry and ready for the next challenge.

"I am excited to get my teeth into a project and really propel the club to the next level. I want to be competing for things and winning things. It's now waiting for the right project I can really get my teeth into."

Gowling believes he has left Hereford in a better position than when he arrived.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the club - I have had some fantastic messages from the fans, which has been really nice," said Gowling.

"When you sit back and reflect, for me, my remit when I went into the club was to leave it in a better position.

"To go from two relegation battles in two years, to taking over with probably one of the lower resources in the league and achieve what we achieved - a Wembley final, highest ever league position, knocking on the door of the play-offs and the FA Cup this year - we do leave the club in a way better position.

We've had youth team players make their first team debuts. Behind the scenes we've worked tirelessly with Nashy (Jon Nash) in the community. We brought the youth team back, imprinted our DNA in the youth team, we put one of the coaches in the PDC (Player Development Centre) and I spent time mentoring the coaches there.

"We had two youth team players train with the first team every week to make sure that path is there for young Hereford players to get into the first team.

"So we're really proud of it. I think we've done so much work behind the scenes and leave the club in a really healthy position, financially great and with a really good squad. Me and my staff are really proud of the work we've put in and I want to thank everyone at Hereford for giving us that opportunity."
