The Squad Is Better Than Last Year Says Gowling

During his post match interview after the 3-0 defeat at Heybridge in the FA Trophy yesterday, Hereford manager Josh Gowling said that his squad is better than last year but he still needed more players because of the injury crisis at Edgar Street.

He said he was without 12 players for the tie.

"Some of them look a bit leggy so we do need to bring in reinforcements.

"I'll speak to the board. They will let me bring in players that's for sure.

"Because we need to bring bodies in.

"The squad is better than it was last year, we're improving from last year. We've got more points on the board than we had last year. We are in a better position than we were last year.

"But we've just hit a bit of a blip at the moment.

"Jarred is a bit longer (Injury) so the full back area is something we need to address. Latty would have been that but with his hamstring he'll be a couple of weeks.

"Jack (Evans) hopefully will be back training next week.

"The midfield area we've got Luke and Jethro in there at the moment and we probably need another midfielder I would say.

"Then Ryan has got a three game ban so that doesn't help in wide areas.

"Then Jack (Holmes) wasn't available today because he's cup-tied so he'll be back in the mix come the weekend."

Why has Lexan Osideko not been involved (he's out on dual-registration, first with Redditch then with Mickelover).

"He's out at the moment at Michelover, he's been in and out the squad there. And for me he's got to prove, it's his second dual-reg now, he's doing the business. If he's not he's not going to be here.

"He's done okay here pre-season but then for me he's not kicked on yet.

"If you bring Lexs back into the fold we have to pay him so if we are looking to bring in bodies then we are going to look at players who can come straight into the squad and play.

"Then if he is dropping down a level and not playing then he's not going to come here and play is he."

A difficult run of games for Hereford in the next few weeks starting with Darlington next Saturday.

"We've got Darlington, Kings Lynn, Spennymoor, Chorley so we've got a real big few games coming up.

"So you will want everyone fit, we haven't.

"But what we will do is make sure we ready for the home game on Saturday and put in a good shift."

KH: So you are confident resources are going to be made available?

"I'm confident that we'll have the players we need to be competitive on Saturday."
