Hereford manager Josh Gowling told the media that he was'gutted' after AFC Fylde scored the winning goal with just seconds of injury time remaining.
"We had thrown bodies forward trying to get a win," said Gowling.
"I think we just switched off at the end.
"Everyone thought the ball was out and we just stopped and then he's put it in.
"I'm so proud of the boys. We wanted to take the game to them and I think we did that.
"When they scored I think we took over the game. We played good football.
"To come away with a 2-1 loss is gut-wrenching but I'm proud of every single lad out there.
"Fylde are a good side, they've got a good manager, good players, they work well, they rotate well, they get on the ball, they are comfortable in possession, they've got some older pros who have got that experience. They are a good side.
"We came with a game plan and I think once we got to grips with it we looked really solid and organised. We looked fluid in possession and I thought we looked a real threat.
"So it's disappointing to have come away with a 2-1 loss in the end.
"I'm just gutted for the lads, the shift they put in today was immense.
"I said to them they do that six more times this season they'll win six games."
What did you say to them at half-time?
"When you come in at half-time and you've played some good football I think it gives you that confidence and I think that's a big thing for the lads. Today they grew in confidence as the game went on and they got stronger and stronger.
"I said just go for it, let's try and get a win.
"Normally when it's 1-1 away from home you normally sit in and not go forward but we need to win games of football but today it hasn't gone in our favour."
McLean found the back of the net in the second half but it was ruled offside, a decision which surprised supporters who were sat in line with the midfielder.
"It was a good finish, on another day you get them. Ryan came on and made an immediate impact."
Hereford still have a chance of making the play-offs but really must start winning games. Next is Telford at Edgar Street on Friday.
"You could see on a pitch which is slick and moving we can play good football. So we're going to give it a go. It's going to be an exciting end to the season. We're going to give it everything.
"I believe we're going to do it, I do."
