Richards Rues Missed Chances At Boston

Head Coach Marc Richards felt there were positives to take out of today's 3-1 defeat at Boston, but he's gutted about the result.

He said the new signings are showing pleasing signs from what they've been working on in training, but his side didn't take their chances.

“Some really pleasing aspects out of the performance, obviously gutted about the result," Richards said.

“You never want to come into a game and not get what you wanted out of it, I think a point would’ve been a fair result based on the performance. If we’d have taken our chances, maybe a reversed result.

“There’s some really pleasing signs from the new signings, from some of the stuff we’ve been working on on the training ground, so that’s really pleasing but gutted about the result.

“That’s just playing on my mind at the moment.”

Richards said Hereford knew exactly what threat Boston had as they'd down their homework, but they found themselves 1-0 down with what he felt was a harsh goal.

“You see it at every level if you don’t take your chances," added Richards.

“I just said to the boys then after the game that it shows you this level, that is the National League North. We had a few really good chances in the first half, didn’t take them and go in (at half time) at 0-0.

“The message that went out at half time was ‘what’s their threat?’, so we know exactly what their threat was but unfortunately four minutes in we find ourselves 1-0 down.

“I’ve just watched it back and it was probably actually a bit harsh on Ethan (Wassall), he looked to manhandle him.

“I’ve got no excuses for the second and the third, that was poor from us, but the first one was probably a bit harsh.”
McGrath's head injury three weeks ago

Calvin Dinsley was replaced by Mike McGrath within the opening stages of the game as he picked up a head injury.

It's not thought to be as serious compared to the one McGrath or Martin Horsell picked up a few weeks ago but he's gone to hospital for stitches.

He said: “We’ve just put a call in to see how he is, he’s gone to hospital. To get another head injury less than two minutes in is the last thing we want to be doing.

“First and foremost it’s is he okay, but also having to make a change that early and another enforced change in the second half with Keiran (Thomas).

“Not ideal, but roll our sleeves up and crack on with it.”

It's now just a case of all the players sticking together and Richards says he's excited for where he's hopefully going to take the club.

“We’ve all just got to stick together and if everyone starts binding to where we’re hopefully going to take this squad and this club, I’m really excited, I’m still excited.

“I’m really disappointed we’ve lost 3-1 but there’s so many positives from today and we go straight into Tuesday now.

“Hopefully we can continue with the same performance levels and hopefully get the right result.”
