Richards Praises New Signings But Urges Supporters To 'Stick With Us'

Head Coach Marc Richards praised the three new signings he made this week afters side fell to a disappointing 3-1 loss at Boston United this afternoon.

Of the three new players to have joined Hereford this week, James Roberts and Tommy O'Sullivan were both handed starts and Tom Owen-Evans came off the bench late on.

Richards says that Hereford will always try to win the game, but urges supporters to get behind his side when they return to Edgar Street next Saturday,

“Every game we’ll go into we’ll try and put a game plan into place that we will try and win the game," said Richards.

“Stockport probably looked like we were holding on for a draw, but it was the second game in from the FA Cup game and obviously that was full of drama.

“Stick with us, just stick with us over the next two or three weeks while we get this sorted and get this team playing like you saw in spells today, hopefully the results will follow.

“Please come and watch us, hopefully the supporters that travelled today, and again great in terms of the noise that they make and the players and staff are so appreciative of that, but come and watch us.

“I think it’ll be exciting stuff that’s going to be happening over the next couple of months, so come and watch us. Yes it's a disappointing result, but hopefully these performances will then get the right results."

Tommy O'Sullivan
As for the newcomers, striker James Roberts and midfielder Tommy O’Sullivan were both 'excellent' today according to the Head Coach and very comfortable in possession.

“I thought they were excellent, both of them excellent," Richards added.

“The energy James has given us, the want to get into goalscoring areas and literally did not stop running.

“I think in the 93rd minute he was chasing a ball down, won it in the far corner and crossed it, an unfortunate half-chance that went begging.

“Tommy O’Sullivan just gives you that class. They were very composed in possession and with Tom Owen-Evans coming off the bench as well just showed you what he can do in the short spell that he was on.”

Tom Owen-Evans joined the club yesterday after being released from Scottish-side Falkirk and Richards says the move has worked out 'perfectly'.

“Obviously knowing Tom helps, but also the fact that he had his contract terminated. It was mutally agreed that they would terminate his contract.

“He doesn’t live too far away, he’s Chepstow-based so it just worked out perfectly really in terms of having availability to take him.

“He’s a good player, (his fitness levels) aren’t too bad. He played the first two or three games up in Scotland, but obviously with the change of manager he didn’t play, so he was playing more in the sort of reserve team.

“He probably needs a few training sessions to get him up to speed, but you saw the sort of quality that he does bring in the final third today."

As for the rest of the players, Richards said they were naive today which was the difference between the two sides.

He said: “I can’t question any of their attitudes, application or their work ethic, anything like that, that was not in question today.

“It’s just a bit of naivety, it showed the levels of the acuteness of some of the players they’re going to come up against, which I thought we were a little bit naive at times and that was the difference today.”
