Harris Said Special Marc Richards Is Just What Hereford Need

Head of Football Tim Harris is confident that Marc Richards us what Hereford need to 'quickly move things forward' and changes such as new players and more training could be on the horizon.

First joining Gloucester in 2006, Richards made over 100 appearences for the club before moving to Australia in 2010. He returned to the club four years later as a player-coach when Tim Harris was manager.

The 36-year old is currently working at Hartpury College where, according to Harris, has developed many players over the last decade who are now playing professional football.

"Obviously I've worked with him before and I know his strengths, but I said to the board that this guy is special," Harris said.

"He's developed some really good players that have gone on to international football over a sustained period. His coaching, his attention to detail along with his backroom staff will give this club a real lift.

"Any of the four candidates could've done the job, but I said to the board that I'm going to put them in front of you but you've got to make the decision. Ultimately this is a progress, from where we are at the present moment in time we've got to move forward.

"In his role as Assistant Lead Director of Sport at Hartpury he has the ability to do what we need to do here, that's why he's a good fit.

"We are a part time football club. We probably need to increase the training, the training with the players to quickly move things forward and I'm sure that'll be one of Marc's first jobs.

Two members of Richards' backroom staff will be following him to Edgar Street, assistant manager and striker Will Morford and Performance Analyst Luke Brick.

Morford's move is more to do with how well he works with Richards and not the fact he's a striker - he's not someone Harris would get excited about on the pitch.

"He (Richards) is bringing two with him, yes.

"Will Morford, if we look at where we are, is probably not someone I'd get excited about in like he's going to come here and score 20 goals.

"But he could still do a job on the pitch, but the combination of the two of them work very well together. After three or four games here I think I know what's required here.

"Together we're going to work night and day to start winning football matches.

"We've been working hard to try and do that (bring players in) but we'll just see what happens over the next few days and we need to shake this up a little bit."
