Players Have Been 'Unbelievable' Said Beadle

Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle has heaped praise on his squad for lifting the Southern Premier League title.

In an interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester Beadle said it had been a long hard season but it had been well worth it.

"The boys has been fantastic over the past eight and a half months.

"To finish top of the pile of what has been the strongest league it's been for a long time now, with five teams getting 90 points plus, credit to the boys.

"I think Biggleswade was the 59th game in total this season and we've still got a few more to go.

"For them to have achieved what they have achieved with three games to go is nothing short of unbelievable.

"And the supporters, they are our 12th man.

"They've seen championship after championship so far, we can only be grateful for what they've done, coming to every game and following us in great numbers both home and away."

Former player Ricky George felt they should make a film about how well the new club has done.

"I think this should make national news. Somebody needs to write this story. Somebody said to me what was the last Hollywood moment in football. I was with John Motson at the time and he said Hereford beating Newcastle.

"This has upstaged us and I'm very happy to say it. All the credit has to go to Peter and the players since this new club was formed.

"It's Hereford United in all but name and the fantastic support the club has had is legendary.

"I'm just delighted for everybody.

"Even 40/50 years ago as a non-league club Hereford was the best supported club in the country non-league wise.

"I know there are only two more promotions to get to the Football League but if it takes a few more years I think one knows that the support will always be there."

Beadle was then asked who would play him in the film. Tom Cruise maybe?

"I don't think there are any Hollywood film stars ugly enough to play me."

Finally looking towards next season.

"We've got to sit down with the board over the next couple of weeks hopefully to have a healthy budget for next season to carry on this momentum.

"I think it is vitally important for us that we continue this momentum while the ball is rolling and everything is going so well.

"We can't spend beyond our means but I just want to keep this momentum going as long as we can.

"Who knows, we could be, with the support we've got and the fanbase we've got and the volunteers we have, we could well be looking at four promotions and then we will be back to where we were far quicker than anyone ever expected."

It was again suggested that Tom Cruise could play Beadle in any film if that happened.

"He's not tall enough!" said Beadle.

"We just want to crack on now and finish this season on a high.

"We've got the last home game on Saturday and we hope that everyone will turn out and enjoy a carnival atmosphere."
