Gwladys the Bulls previews this afternoon's game:
Hereford FC are at home again this afternoon against Gosport Borough in the Southern League. The two sides faced each other just three weeks ago with The Bulls comprehensive 4-0 winners against the bottom side.
Hereford returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Frome Town on Tuesday and re-established a four point lead at the top of the table. The anxiety of supporters has been growing in recent weeks with team performances not as fluid as they had been just a few weeks ago. Tuesday saw the lowest league gate of the season at Edgar Street which is surprising considering the position the club is going into at the business end of the campaign.
John Mills returned to the starting line up despite nursing a knee injury through to the end of the season. He was on hand to pounce on a loose ball at close range to ensure that Hereford claimed all three points. Ryan Green is being sorely missed at present as Beadle’s side appear to be missing his calming influence and organisation skills at the back. His return would be timely for any of the remaining nine fixtures.
Gosport have failed to pick up a single point since hosting Hereford and remain four points adrift of Dunstable Town who lie in 23rd place. Last week, manager Alex Pike was sacked for the second time this season and he was replaced by former Football League journeyman Rowan Vine, Louie Bell and Jay Keating. Using Vine’s vast experience - that included stints at Luton Town, QPR and Birmingham City - The Boro will be hoping the new management team can get the couple of wins needed to avoid relegation.
Their first act in charge this week was to sign three new players: Ryan Case from Bath City, Luca Wrightman from Aldershot and Sam Lanahan from Dorchester. This will be a timely boost to the squad at this late stage of the season and all three are expected to play some part at Edgar Street.
Back to back wins would start to rebuild confidence at Hereford with yet another home game on the horizon next weekend against Royston Town. Kings Lynn face a tricky trip to Redditch today and supporters will have half an eye on events at the TRICO stadium where Hereford also visit on Easter Monday. Whilst putting in a satisfying performance would be nice, it’s results that count now and three points - however they arrive - should be celebrated rather than criticised. Supporters would have snatched your hand off to be in this position if offered in August. Let’s get behind the team and help the team across the finishing line. Seven victories is the target. Hopefully only six at 4.50pm.
