Hereford 1 - Tiverton Town 0

After a disappointing performance at Kings Langley on Saturday, fans favourite John Mills started upfront for the Bulls for the visit of Tiverton Town this evening. Jamie Molyneux also made the starting XI, with Garyn Preen and Jamie Edge dropping to the bench. The back four remained unchanged following the 3-3 draw, with Ryan Green unavailable through injury.

A minute’s silence was held ahead of kick off in memory of Kyran Hughes, a Hereford supporter who sadly passed away recently.

Attacking the Meadow End in the first half, Hereford had two corners and a free kick within the opening two minutes, but failed to make the most of their early chances.
Their first real chance of the game came in the sixth minute courtesy of Mike Symons. Jamie Molyneux did well to win back possession before working the ball out to captain Jimmy Oates. Oates’ cross from the right was met by a powerful header from Symons, but he couldn’t find the target as his effort went wide.

Tiverton’s first look on goal came after Ollie Knowles was fouled. Last season’s top goalscorer, Levi Landricombe, fired wide from the resulting free kick.

John Mills then went close to opening the scoring with 21 minutes on the clock, but after bursting into a pocket of space, he drilled his shot wide of the mark from 20-yards.

Hereford kept up the pressure on Tivvy, with a couple of chances falling to Pablo Haysham. The first came after some good work by Calvin Dinsley down the left, but after setting-up Haysham, his effort was straight down the middle and proved an easy save for visiting keeper Martin Rice.
A second shot for Haysham two minutes later whistled harmlessly wide of the target.

Despite little possession in the first half, Tiverton did go close before the break. Owen Howe was gifted a chance to break the deadlock, but he fired over the crossbar with just the keeper left to beat.

Hereford started the second half with a quick succession of corners, with the best change falling for Jack Deaman, but his header was denied by the crossbar.

Ten minutes after the restart, John Mills should’ve done better to capitalise on a defensive error from the visitors, but former Torquay stopper Martin Rice denied the Hereford marksman with a strong save.

The pace of the game then slowed, with little in the way of action until Hereford were awarded a penalty in the 80th minute. James Bowen played a neat through-ball to Pablo Haysham, who was brought down by Nick Hurst after bursting into the box.

John Mills stepped up, duly dispatching the spot kick into the bottom left-hand corner of the net, for his second goal in as many games.

Despite making two substitutions late in the game, Tiverton weren’t able to find a late equaliser for a share of the points.
