With Ryan Green unavailable with an achilles problem, Mark Preece and Jack Deaman retained their partnership in defence last night against Tiverton.
"Ryan didn't train on Tuesday so we gave him a rest, but he trained really well on Thursday.
"Had the weekend off to recover so he would be ready for tonight because we knew that Mark has a similar problem with his achilles. Mark's had it a bit longer
"But this morning I had a text from the physio saying he was struggling and he came here early tonight and wasn't fit.
"But sometimes when that happens you get a reaction from people and I thought Mark Preece gave his best performance since he's been here for me.
"Solid, won every header and didn't make any real mistakes, kept everything simple on the floor.
"That's what I ask of him every week so why he doesn't do it, I don't know.
"But that was his best performance because he knew he had to play because Ryan wasn't there, wasn't available.
"He didn't make any excuses just got on and played.
"So now he has set the bar for himself and he's got to maintain that.
"I've always been a big believer in performance.
"If your performance is right no one can complain and moan about why it wasn't.
"If you get beat and you've played well then it's a tough one to take but you hold your hand up.
"Tonight we had the total performance, Saturday we lacked a bit defencively as a group although the performance in general wasn't that bad, today was better again.
"Hopefully we'll keep improving and getting better. If we can have that little bit more quality in the final third , hopefully we'll have more chances and more goal-mouth action.
"I think the fans will go home happy tonight. I'm happy which is great and the players are smiling because I'm happy.
"They were brilliant, everyone single one of them. If they hadn't have won the game I think it would have been a bit of injustice."
