Hereford 8 - Heanor Town 0

Hat-Trick Hero Pablo Haysham

Heanor Town were the visitors at a packed Edgar Street this afternoon, the fourth 4,000+ gate of the season. Hereford manager Pete Beadle reverted to the starting XI that put 3 past Sporting Khalsa on Tuesday, after making 9 changes at Stourport on Thursday.

Hereford had the majority of possession within the opening stages, with the first clear cut chance of the game coming in the 5th minute courtesy of Joe Tumelty. As a header forward by Jimmy Oates was brought down by Mike Symons, he offloaded to Joe Tumelty who’s shot on the turn went wide of the upright, much to relief of visiting keeper Joe McCormack.

7 minutes later, Pablo Haysham was brought down as he burst forward, being awarded a free kick 25-yards out by referee Paul Wainman.
As Haysham stepped up, his curling right-footed effort beat the 4-man wall, before nestling in the bottom right-hand corner of the net to open the scoring for the Whites.

Heanor came close to grabbing an equaliser midway through the half after Martin Horsell couldn't hold onto Jordan Simpson's free kick, but the ball was flicked narrowly wide by Joe Naylor.

On the half hour mark Captain Rob Purdie came close to grabbing his 12th goal of the season. Lions skipper Nick Hall lost his footing allowing Purdie through on goal, but his shot from the edge of the box was parried before McCormack gathered.

But 3 minutes later Joe Tumelty extended Hereford's lead. Haysham did well to keep the ball in play under pressure from Ashleigh Lynch, cutting the ball back to Tumelty. He had time to pick his spot, firing low past McCormack for his 6th goal in a Hereford shirt.

And Then Celebrates With Rob Purdie
The Bulls had a 3 goal lead going into half time, thanks to super Aaron Birch. Some good build up play on the right flank meant Sirdic Grant could break into the box before teeing up Aaron Birch. Birch’s well-worked effort was too far out of the reach of the keeper, leaving him to pick the ball up out of the back of the net for the third time of the afternoon.

With Hereford playing towards the Meadow End for the final time in the league this season, they started the half brightly with an early and ambitious effort from James Bowen whistling wide of the post.

3 minutes later, Pablo Haysham grabbed his second of the game in front of a Meadow End basking in the sunshine. Haysham played a neat one-two with Mike Symons within a congested penalty area before his low diagonal effort from the right-hand side of the box snuck in at the far post.

The 4,000 Hereford supporters didn't have to wait long for the Bulls' 5th goal of the game, coming from Jamie Willets in the 56th minute. Rob Purdie took a corner short to Aaron Birch, before Purdie’s cross from the left was met by Willets, heading the ball down past the stationary keeper.

The match continued to be oneway traffic as Hereford added goals 6&7 to their tally.
Just 2 minutes after Willets’ goal, the Whites found the back of the net once again. Aaron Birch played a through ball to Mike Symons, only for his shot on goal to be parried by the keeper; but the onrushing Pablo Haysham was on hand to clip the ball over Heanor’s stopper to complete his hat-trick.

In the 62nd minute Joe Tumelty grabbed his second. Mike Symons drifted into the centre with the ball, before being dispossessed by Oliver Naylor. Tumelty picked up the loose ball, trying his luck with a fantastic strike from outside the area, as the ball sailed past the helpless McCormack, destined for the top right-hand corner of the net.

The onslaught continued from Hereford, as they relentlessly battered the Lions’ defence. On the stroke of the 70th minute, Jordan Simpson was forced into making a goal line clearance to prevent an 8th goal after Mike Symons’ header beat the keeper.

7 minutes later Hereford had the ball in the back of the net but was disallowed for an infringement by Ryan Green. Sirdic Grant was impeded as he made progress down the right, before being replaced by Mustapha Bundu. The resulting free kick, taken by Rob Purdie, was met with a powerful header from Ryan Green, only for the goal to be disallowed after heading past McCormack.

In the 81st minute, substitute John Mills grabbed his 50th goal of the season. Bundu played a long ball forward to Mills, he was given time in the box to work the ball onto his favoured right foot, slotting the ball low past a very disheartened Joe McCormack.

Heanor pushed for a late consolation goal with Martin Horsell well off his line, but Naylor’s powerful long range strike was high and wide of the target.

2 minutes into stoppage time, Rob Purdie continued his run as the ball was played through, poking the ball away from keeper only to be upended as the referee immediately pointed to the spot.
Joe Tumelty stepped up to try and complete his hat-trick, but his firmly struck spotkick was pushed onto the post by the diving keeper as Heanor cleared the danger.
