The Northern League will have a team in the Vase final at Wembley for the eighth successive season when a late winner put Morpeth through against Bowers and Pitsea.
The scores were tied 3-3 on aggregate over the two legs, but three minutes into stoppage time, Luke Carr scored a dramatic winner from a Keith Graydon cross to make Morpeth the sixth team from the Northern League to play at Wembley in the last eight years.
Morpeth will now play former Football League club Hereford in the final on Non League Day at Wembley on Sunday May 22nd, kick off 12.15. The Trophy final between Grimsby and Halifax Town is being played on the same day.
Morpeth manager Nick Gray said; “What a great day for everyone involved with the club, especially for chairman Ken Beattie. I can’t believe that I’m going to be taking a team to Wembley.
“We murdered Bowers in the first half, but they equalised with their only shot all day. We got the opening goal, and missed several chances to make it two.
“It was well deserved win in the end, although we left it late. We didn’t take our chances in the first half, but overall we deserved to go through to Wembley.”
