In a post match interview at Lye Town, Peter Beadle admitted it had been a hard fought victory against a team with a good home record.
"It was hard fought and I think we showed a different side to our game today," said the Hereford manager.
"We showed character, determination, organisation, the win to will because it was tough.
"Fair play to Lye I thought they were excellent second half and put us under an awful lot of pressure without creating too many really good chances.
"We didn't have a lot of the ball second half but I thought our discipline and our shape and the way we worked it was fantastic and in the end it's 2-1 and we had another two great chances to make it more comfortable but it wasn't to be but we ground it out in the end."
How nervous were you at two one?
"Not nervous because at the end of the day you do the work you do and then come match day, apart from maybe a substitution or a change of formation, you can't effect too much, it's up to the players.
"And I trust this group of players wholeheartedly that they will put in a performance no matter what, at the end of the day we've done that and we kept them down to minimal chances but it wasn't a case of nervous or anything like that, it was more a case of hopefully we could see it through and we did that.
"I thought their goal first half was well worked and well timed and it was going to take something similar to break us down again.
"It is what it is, either you win, you lose or you draw and you know that is going to happen at some point in the season.
"We had to make a change eventually, we weren't going to make a change because I think that change may have disrupted us a little bit. Joe (Tumelty) picked up a knock but we saw it through.
"It's a good result here because their results here are very very good. They are used to playing here . It is a difficult surface. It wasn't impossible to play on, we played some good stuff at times, but not being used to how heavy it is it was hard going.
"But yet again the players rolled their sleeves up and showed the true character they've really got."
You couldn't have asked at the start of the season for better than top of the table at Christmas?
"As I said I think our plan at the start of the season to be there or there about competeing but to be top of the pile going into Christmas is the cherry on the cake but we've got an awful lot of games to go.
"It's going to be a hard task. Alvechurch are still winning, Khalsa have dropped points to day but they are still going to be in a strong position. So Highgate are the same, Heanor are the same.
"There are some good sides in this League this year and so it's always going to be tough.
"For me we are over achieving where we are now because I didn't think we would be quite where we are right now. But again credit to the players because we've had some changes, brought players in and we've made the group stronger when we've had a chance to and responded fantastically.
"23 wins on the bounce is nothing to be sniffed at any level of football and they keep it going.
"So we're delighted to be where we are but it's a long way to go."
