Beadle Pleased With Performance

Hull U21 Manager Tony Pennock With Peter Beadle
Despite losing 3-2, Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle felt that the friendly against Hull U21's had been a good exercise for his squad.

"We know we are not going to play teams that play like that every week," said Beadle.

"So it was a good exercise for us defensively and for our organisation to have a few more voices on the pitch because we've been a bit quiet recently.

"I thought second half we were probably better. We were more in possession, we were more decisive, we looked quite hungary going forward which was great.

"We defended quite stoutly until the last ten minutes. It was a shame how it ended up result wise but performance I was really pleased.

"We want to make sure that the players we have are used in their best positions and I thought with the set up today we looked really good certainly going forward.

"And second half we certainly caused them more problems than they caused us.

"For us to say that against a team like them was fanastic. And we looked threatening going forward.

"For this particular game this (system) suits us at the home as we want to impose ourselves.

"But we do know when we go away from home at certain places we may have to change our shape in the way we play."

A Sol Wheatley cross led to Hereford's first goal scored by Adam Page.

"He's gained more confidence as pre-season has gone on. I think offering the deal for him to stay has boosted him.

"We've got coaches that want to work with him and it's all very positive and giving him ways to help him improve his game.

"And when he does something well that when he realises well they do know what they are on about. When he does what we ask him to do he does it extremely well.

"We know what he's got physically and his strength and his power and his pace but adding the finishing touches to it.

"So far he's had a steady pre-season and I'd like to think he'll get better as the games go on."

John Mills missed a penalty.

"John has scored just under 120 goals in four seasons, that's not the sort of person who gets disappointed if he misses a chance or two.

"And he showed that when he missed the penalty and then had another chance and scored the goal then had another one disallowed we thought quite harshly.

"So he showed his prowess in front of goal and showed his willingness to work. He doesn't just stand there and hangs around waiting for a chance, he works hard as well which is pleasing.

"He's integrated himself into the team really well and he's going to be a threat for defences this year and that's why he's come to the club."

Aaron Birch was back in the starting line-up.

Aaron Birch
"The arrangement was that he came and played today. We'll be speaking to him afterwards. He's a young pro, he's come out of the game.

"He played for West Brom U21's for a couple of season. He played for us at Merthyr and did really well but he's had a couple of opportunities as well that he wanted to go to.

"I've been in touch with him since then and he's come in and played extremely well today.

"So I'll have a chat with him afterwards and see if he's made his mind up and if we have some positive news with him that will be great. He would be a great addition to group."

Both Joel Edwards and Josh Emery remain side-lined.

"Joel's ribs are a little bit sore and we want to give him as much chance as we can for him to be fit for the first game of the season.

"But if he's not then we got more than enough people who can play in that position.

"Will (Haines) played extremely well (in that position) for an hour but he picked up a little bit of a knock on his hip but he'll be fine.

"Dean (Lee) who can on could fill in there as well and also Dylan (Bonella)

"So apart from Joel and Josh everyone seems okay at the minute"

Beadle has a couple of training sessions before the first League game next Saturday.

"If only it was a week! Just a couple of nights and we'll get to work and sharpen up on a few things and we'll do some work on some set-pieces and get them nailed down.

"It's been a good pre-season, it's been a little bit all over the place with the amount of players we've had but the lads who are still here have been very patient.

"I think we've looked more cohesive the more games we've played and certainly second half today we were very fluent in the way we played.

"Now it's time to look forward to when it really counts, when it really matters.

"Hopefully another big crowd next weekend, we had a great turnout to day for the friendly, and I hope people have gone away happy with the performance.

"The result at the end was a bit of a shame but we had to let Jarrod (Bowen) get something coming back, we had to be nice to him and let him get a goal.

"The fact he got two the little bugger, I'll have a word with him afterwards.

"As a whole any football person would look at that and say against an under 21 team thats just dropped out of the Premier League we played extremely well and hopefully that will continue next week."
