News Round-Up

Southport have released striker Nathan Ellington. The non-contract 32 year old started in new boss John Coleman's first game in charge on Saturday, but was subbed off after less than an hour. Salisbury have announced the signing of Argentinian midfielder Agustin Battipiedi. The 24 year old was brought to the UK by Guy Poyet at Brighton, and has also had a spell with Dover.

Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite says the club is not in danger of going bust, and that all wages are up to date. Smurthwaite says the email to players' agents was about their fees, and that there was a delay as he was investigating the deals to see whether the sums needed to be paid. He admitted being 'over ambitious' with their budget targets, saying the total wage bill at the club was £300,000 a month with only a quarter of it coming back through the gate income.

Macclesfield trio Scott Boden, Danny Andrew, and Scott Kay have all signed contract extensions to the end of the season. Andrew has been ever present since arriving from Cheltenham, while Boden is top scorer of their current squad with seven goals. Former Brentford chairman Ron Noades has died at the age of 76. He helped the Bulls in the 99/00 season by buying out Gavin Mahon's sell-on clause, keeping the club in business.
