Downing In Baggies Caretaker Role

Former Bulls player/coach Keith Downing has been placed in temporary charge of West Brom after they put boss Steve Clarke on 'gardening leave'.

Downing was one of two 'Assistant Head Coaches' alongside 'Head Coach' Clarke. Both Clarke and the second assistant, Kevin Keen, have been sent to trim the hedges after the Baggies lost four straight top flight games.

Downing joined the Bulls as a 30 year old in 1995, ending his playing career against Cheltenham in 1999 - a team he would later manage - after 73 games and one goal.

He had a brief spell in charge of the team, remaining officially as a coach, at Edgar Street while Graham Turner focused on off-field matters. He returned to The Hawthorns in 2009, progressing from youth team coaching to his current assistant role.
