More Details About Edgar Street Development Plans

More details have emerged about the proposed plans for the two ends of the Edgar Street football ground, the home of Hereford United.

In essence, the Blackfriars End could be transformed into a 1200 all seater stand and the Meadow End into a terrace to hold up to 2000.

In a detailed statement Director Bob Pritchard explained his thinking.

"The design of the new stands, which will run closer and parallel to the edge of the playing surface allows for the maximising of the development areas situated behind these stands at either end of the ground, to ensure that maximum receipts can be achieved from the agreed property developers," said Pritchard as reported on the OS.

"The revenue received from the land/lease sales will be retained in  escrow accounts jointly held by the Council and Hereford United (1939) Limited.

"These funds will only be released in order to facilitate the redevelopment of the new stands to improve and modernise the stadium in accordance with the joint ambition of the Council and the Football Club as set out in the new heads of terms and 30/250 year leases.

"The club have an obligation to submit an application for grant funding which currently stands at a maximum of £400K as a Conference club to mitigate the cost of these projects.

"The current view is that the land value and the grant funding will fall short of the estimated cost for the development of both stands and therefore the money raised from the share issue will make up any shortfall in order to develope the stadium in accordance with the heads of terms and draft leases.

"In order to develop the new two stands the club has obtained quotations in accordance with the draft designs and also have quotations for the demolition and floodlighting, however new turnstiles, emergency access gates and services have been estimated on current costs.

"It will not be possible to fund these projects without the generous financial support of the Council who have agreed for the valued community land asset to be used to create a warm and welcoming community stadium adjacent to the new commercial developments of the old cattle market and the new residential housing scheme which includes a care home on the Merton Meadow car park."
