The R Costings Abbey Stadium has a capacity of 9617
including 4376 seats. Visitors are
accommodated in the all seated Marstons Smooth South Stand at the far end of
the ground from Newmarket Road where admission is believed to cost £18 for
adults, £12 for concessions and £8 for U16’s via the South Stand
turnstiles. Fans will need to use the
footpath to the town side of the main entrance in Newmarket Road along the back
of the Habbin Terrace to reach the turnstiles.
HUISA – Depart from Radford’s at 9.00am. Fare £20 (non-members £22). Book through The Club office (08442
761939). Seats still available.
BY CAR – To Worcester, then M5 (north) to join the M42. Leave the M42 at J7A to join the M6 south
(sign London). As you approach the end
of the M6 (where it joins the M1) branch left and join the A14 (sign
Felixstowe). Continue on the A14 past Kettering
and Huntingdon before passing the M11 junction. Then, at the fourth junction after the M11 (situated east of
Cambridge), take the slip road up to a roundabout (sign Stow-Cum-Quy). Turn right onto the A1303 towards
Cambridge. Go straight over the first
roundabout (passing Marshall Airport to the left). Go through two sets of traffic light to another roundabout (the
grounds floodlights can be seen from here with MacDonalds on the right). POSTCODE CB5 8LN. Distance is about 155 miles and you should allow a little over
three hours.
PARKING – There is no visitors’ parking at the ground so
street parking or town centre car parks are the order of the day. Coaches are directed to an area off Coldhams
Lane from where fans can walk across Coldhams Common to the ground.
LOCAL BUSES – The Citibus C3 drops close to the main entrance
and operates from the train station and through the centre of Cambridge every
ten minutes during the day.
ALEHOUSES – The Supporters Club at the ground usually admits
visiting fans subject to an admission charge of £1 and does serve food. Inside the stadium, the usual selection of
food and hot and cold drinks are available.
Pub choices near to the ground are poor with the Wrestlers on Newmarket
Road looking like the only option. The
town centre, however, offers a good selection with The Cambridge Blue on Gwydir
Street offering a splendid list. Others
of note include The Castle in Castle Street, The Devonshire Arms on errrm,
Devonshire Street, The Elm Tree on Orchard Street and The Flying Pig on Hills
Road. The local ‘Spoons are The Regal
on St Andrews Street or The Tivoli in Chesterton Road.
CHIP SHOP – Mr Chippy is on Newmarket Road a few minutes
from the main entrance.
Enjoy.
