It's A Learning Curve Says Chester Manager

Recently promoted to the conference Chester City lost their opening match on Saturday. They were defeated 3-1 by a strong Barnet side.

Afterwards Chester manager, Neil Young, spoke about the game and the visit of Hereford United tomorrow evening.

Barnet scored first and Young felt they then lifted their game.

"I told the players that when they do concede a goal against a good side then for the next 20 minutes we have to make sure we stay in the game," said Young as reported by Chester First.

"I think we got picked off a little bit too easy down the middle. I said to the players after the match that I thought we wilted a little bit after their first goal, but we have got to keep learning.

"People can talk about all the teams in this division, but we are facing a few full time teams who are former Football League sides."

Young was pleased that 800 Chester fans made the trip to Barnet.

"Our supporters were great at Barnet. To have 800 fans singing all the way through the game was brilliant, but that’s what we’re going to need.

"We’ve got to be realistic in a tough division.

"It’s a learning curve for us, but we’re going to have to learn quickly because we’ve got another big game tomorrow against Hereford.

"They finished sixth last year and they had a great season under Martin Foyle who is another fantastic manager."
