Ex-PL Chief Joins Conference Board

The Conference have announced that former Premier League chief Sir David Richards and Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous have been added to their Board.

Richards left his role as Chairman of the Premier League earlier this season while Kleanthous, who served on the Football League's board until this summer, was on the Conference Board during Barnet's last stint in the division and is understood to have been behind the appointment of Surridge Sports as the official benchwear supplier.

The Conference statement reads:

It is announced that the Football Conference has made two significant additions to the Board ahead of the new season.

Sir David Richards, who until this year had been the Chairman of the FA Premier League, has accepted an invitation to join the Board and serve the competition.

His addition will be a tremendous asset, with his contacts and relationships in and outside the game. We extend a warm welcome to him.

At the AGM, it was announced there was a vacancy on the Board to represent Premier Division members, and an offer to take up a position of co-opted director has been accepted by Tony Kleanthous (pictured) of Barnet FC. Tony is well versed with the workings of the Football Conference, previously being an elected member of the Board before his club earned promotion to the Football League, where he then served them as a Board member. His expertise and knowledge, in particular around commercial matters, will be invaluable to the Football Conference.
