News Round-Up


Barrow chairman Brian Keen has admitted the club does have a tax bill they have not paid, claiming his initial denial to the BBC was because he didn't know about it until late on Saturday. The club's move to sign Stockport's Danny O'Donnell was blocked on Friday, with Keen saying the tax bill will be settled today and the transfer completed this week.

The Don Valley Stadium, used by Rotherham until the summer, faces closure as Sheffield Council look to save the £500,000 running costs. Cheltenham have been burgled ahead of their FA Cup match with Everton tonight. Two thieves are in custody after stealing personal items and car keys from their training ground. 

Gateshead are to hold a pitch inspection ahead of their planned home game with Grimsby tomorrow night. They lost Saturday's home match with Nuneaton on Friday, with a club statement saying the make-up of their pitch was delaying drainage of rain. Plymouth have appointed former Chesterfield boss John Sheridan as their new manager. His first act has been to allow top earner Darren Purse to leave the club for Port Vale.

Grimsby boss Rob Scott says the club are still interested in Ross Hannah despite the signing of Richard Brodie, however a deal remains stalled on finances. Luton striker Andre Gray says he is going nowhere despite interest from serial non-league raiders Peterboro. The 21 year old joined the Hatters on a permanent deal from Hinckley for £30,000 in the summer, and has netted six times in the last seven games.

Portsmouth's Supporters Trust has warned fans not to expect a resolution of their court case on the January 15th court date, saying that it is likely to only be a meeting with a judge to review progress since their last hearing. Shrewsbury have announced losses of £275,000 for last season after a small profit the year before. Turnover fell by more than £500,000 to £3.8million, while wages were largely steady at £2.5million.

Former Bulls loanee Josh Gowling has signed a new two and a half year deal with Kidderminster. His short term deal expired on Saturday and he had been expected to sign for a League side. Lincoln have released utility man Peter Bore. The former Grimsby man can play down the right side or up front but hasn't started a game in three months.

In the press leading up to yesterday's FA Cup game with Liverpool Mansfield have confirmed speculation that the club are running at a loss of £50,000 a week, saying that the money earned from the televised tie would only cover losses for a month. A former director claimed in the summer that the club were expecting a £2million loss this season. Stockport have released three first year pros as the cull on their squad continues. Ben Say, Andy Graham, and Sam Mitten have left midway through their first pro season with just one sub appearance between them.
