The Hereford United shareholders meeting called by chairman David Keyte takes place on Tuesday evening.
Keyte wants the meeting to 'continue this discussion' shareholders and supporters have been having about the financial situation at the club.
No doubt there will be a lot of detail from the chairman at the meeting. Shareholders will want to know how the club has gone so far into debt after having close to £1M in the bank five years ago. They will also want to know the finer details of the loans for refurbishing the Starlite Rooms.
Keyte will probably respond with his view that the buying back of the leases and debt from Richardsons/Carillion for £452,000 was a move that gave the board more control of the ground and in time income streams from the two ends when they are redeveloped.
However whilst many will applaud him for spending the £452,000 and also spending £400,000 or so on the Starlite Rooms, questions will be asked about the budget given to Simon Davey and subsequent managers and also the spending of perhaps £100,000 on Director of Football Gary Peters even if some of that cost was bourne by Keyte himself.
Another point of discussion will be the decision to put up admission prices for this season by £2 when the club dropped down a division. Whilst it's obvious the club needs all the income it can get, it might have been an increase too far for some supporters given the present financial climate.
However all that has been done, rightly or wrongly, and it's how to address the current losses that Keyte will want to focus on.
He has made it clear that he feels other shareholders should consider helping out at this present time.
For them to even consider this option (and how it might be put into practice) shareholders may ask for further representation on the board to ensure any extra help is used solely to balance the weekly shortfall, which is expected to continue for the rest of the season. And there is the £45K VAT debt to consider as well.
Lots of ideas have been put forward on the two forums. Hopefully a number of them will be given consideration.
One, in particular, has been about encouraging more supporters to become shareholders in the club. To do this would require changes to the club's constitution which may take too long given the urgency of the situation but would get more people involved.
Another is to go part-time. However this couldn't happen overnight because of current contracts and could knock the gate even more.
A third idea is to separate the Starlite Rooms from the rest of the club. The thought is that the loans that helped refurbish the venue would then be on a separate balance sheet. Whether this is practical remains to be seen.
A fourth is simply to be as ruthless as possible with all current costs. This may be the only way if no extra finance can be raised.
The meeting, for shareholders only, is due to start at 7pm in the Starlite Rooms on Tuesday evening.
