News Round-Up

Mansfield fan director Darren Shaw has confirmed that a loan made by former Stags director Andy Perry is central to their winding-up hearing. The sum is slightly less than reported at £85,000 plus £7,000 interest, with Perry's father having assigned the loan to the company seeking the order. The club have, so far, made no comment on the matter. Another former director in the club has claimed that the playing budget at Field Mill is £1.4million.

One of the directors that funded the fans' takeover at Wycombe has quit the club. Brian Kane had been a director of the club for 12 years, and cites personal and family reasons for the departure. The local press are claiming that a pair of businessmen are set to be named as Port Vale's prospective bidders. One of the pair is Paul Wildes, a property developer who made an unsuccessful bid for Darlington nearly 12 months ago.

Barrow have extended the contract of midfielder Sean McConville for a second month. The former Accrington man played four times for the Bluebirds during his first month at the club. Kettering had just two first team players available for Saturday's cancelled match with Bideford, and expect tomorrow night's cup match to be called off as well. They are due to pay a delayed £3,000 instalment of their CVA today.

Shrewsbury beat Walsall 1-0 in the battle of the former Bull tribute acts in League One yesterday. Along with the five ex-Bull staff in the dug-outs, 10 former Edgar Street players were named on the team sheets with Paul Parry scoring the goal but Chris Weale being the stand-out performer. However the game made more headlines off the pitch, as three Police officers were injured and 15 people arrested as idiots clashed outside the ground.

Portsmouth bidder Balram Chanrai has denied press claims that his bid has been blocked by the footballing authorities. The Football League are reported to be investigating whether Chanrai had control over the club as a "shadow director" during their second Administration - a matter that would block him under the fit and proper person test. Swindon chairman Jeremy Wray has left the club after he was asked to step down by majority shareholder Andrew Black. The move comes a week after they were hit with a transfer embargo.
