News Round-Up

Grimsby have announced that striker Anthony Elding has put in a transfer request. The former Boston and Stevenage man is still reported to be a target of former mentor Graham Westley at Preston. The Mariners have also made winger Louie Soares available for a loan move. The 27 year old has made only one start this season. Former Bull Ben Smith has left AFC Sudbury by mutual consent. The midfielder is considering whether to hang up his boots after starting a teaching career.

Gateshead captain Ben Clark has been ruled out for a month after tearing a calf muscle. The 29 year old missed Saturday's loss to Woking with the problem. The Heed hope to have forward James Brown back in training after he was given the go-ahead to play for their reserves this week. Dartford have signed striker Adam Birchall from Gillingham on a months loan. The former Barnet and Dover man has made only three sub appearances since a move to the Gills last summer was wrecked by injury.

Mansfield manager Paul Cox says he has to 'wheel and deal' to get a new striker into the club. Cox's forward options are currently limited with just Matt Rhead and Jake Speight his only two striker options this past weekend. Barrow defender Sean Hessey has been handed a three match ban after being sent off following an on-pitch argument with teammate James Owen during their win at Ebbsfleet at the weekend.

Lincoln captain Gary Mills has been handed a three match ban for his red card against Tamworth at the weekend. The Imps board have warned fans that they may take legal action over postings on unofficial messageboards criticising their actions. In a statement, the board say they have taken solicitor's advice on 'actionable' content, warning that they will take action in future if individuals cannot refrain themselves.

Portsmouth's Supporters Trust is reporting that it expects Portpin to be named as the preferred bidder for the club. The Trust is reported by the local press to be seeking moves to block Portpin's bid under the 'fit and proper persons' test, and there are also rumours that Administrator Trevor Birch's conduct will also be called into question. Hyde have signed Bolton teenager Ben Dennis on youth loan. The defender made his debut as a late sub at the weekend.
