Macc "Have To Beat Crewe"

With the Bulls facing Barnet on Friday night, Macclesfield boss Brian Horton admits his side must beat Crewe on Saturday to stay in the hunt.

The Silkmen are 19 games without a win, with Horton admitting to the press that they have to win to stay in touch: "It’s been a disappointing weekend. Barnet play Hereford now and someone’s going to get something so now we’ve got to beat Crewe to stay in there.

"The players have got to get their heads up, they’re chipping at each other in the dressing room which is maybe better than me doing it. It’s a long run without a win and that’s what happens.

"There are 12 points still to play for, I’ve had to win the last four games to stay up before and I’ve done it. I’ve had to win the last game of the season and done that. Until it’s mathematically impossible we will keep going."

Horton now has just four games left to save the Moss Rose club from the same fate suffered in recent years by bigger-hitters such as Stockport, Lincoln, Darlington, Grimsby, Luton and many more. The Silkmen are on a 19-game winless run but the veteran manager remains defiant, insisting: "There are 12 points still to play for, I’ve had to win the last four games to stay up before and I’ve done it. After the Crewe match, the Silkmen face Bradford, Burton, and Southend to decide their fate. Loan defender Ben Futcher told the Manchester Evening News: "I don’t want a relegation on my CV, no one does, that’s something every player wants to avoid.

"But Barnet have a tough run-in, and if we can put the pressure back on them then it’s still all to play for. We can pick some wins up and claw the other teams back in, but we know the games are running out now."
