News Round-Up

Burton are claimed to want recently installed Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore as their new manager. The veteran boss only agreed a deal until the end of the season at Prenton Park. Mansfield boss Paul Cox is also an early front runner according to the press. The Brewers are likely to retain the caretaker duo of Gary Rowett and Kevin Poole until the summer if they can at least halt the club's current run. Rowett, who was Paul Peschisolido's assistant, applied for the manager's job before the Canadian was appointed.

Newport will face York City in the FA Trophy final at Wembley. The Exiles drew 0-0 with Wealdstone win their two-legged tie 3-1, while York beat Luton 2-1 on aggregate. Both keepers at Wembley are ex-Bulls, with Newport having Glyn Thompson and York fielding Michael Ingham. Macclesfield say they are on the verge of naming their new manager. Fans have suggested that either Sammy McIlroy or Paul Ince will take short term charge of the side.

Crewe have lost the services of loan striker Greg Pearson after Burton recalled him this morning. Boss Steve Davis is to decide whether to bring another forward in ahead of Thursday's loan deadline and Saturday's game at Edgar Street. Cheltenham have banned a fan from Whaddon Road for three games after he was ejected from their game at Swindon. They have warned that further bans will be imposed if fans misbehave at away games.

Wimbledon have opted not to extend the loan of veteran striker Jason Euell after his month at Kingsmeadow expired. The Wombles expect to offload defender Jamie Stuart before the loan deadline with Gillingham a possible destination. The Football League have dismissed claims from the Sunday press that Celtic were in talks to join League One. They say that there never has been any talks and that it would be 'disrespectful' to Scottish football to do so.

The proposed Widnes Town, run by Stephen Vaughan Jnr and Mark Wright, have been refused permission by the local council to play at Widnes Viking's council-owned stadium. The club says it has agreed a deal with an unnamed club to play elsewhere next season, but they are not yet guaranteed a league place after the North West Counties League said that another side would get the spot if they earned promotion this season.
