Speaking after this afternoon's game, Hereford United manager Richard O'Kelly felt the Bulls failed to get going against Southend until late in the game.
"I didn't think we started until the last ten minutes of the game," O'Kelly told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"I thought the tempo and the brightness suddenly kicked after 80 minutes because you look and you think are they a bit tired, have they worked too hard this week?
"But with ten minutes to go we suddenly lifted up a gear.
"I know it helps if you get a goal back but you are looking for a performance that wasn't there today.
"But there were little bits of the game when you can see what they are trying to do there but it's getting them to support each other.
"An instance at the end of the game with young Tom.
"A corner and everybody is screaming for him to play the ball into the box. He used a bit of nouse, saw an opportunity to play quickly and brightly and it didn't quite come off.
"If you've got that attitude and we can think like that during the hectic part of the game we'll be okay."
Perhaps the most talked about incident in the game was when the Bulls were awarded a penalty after the Southend keeper, who had brought down Tom Barkhuizen, was not even carded let alone sent off.
"I was over the moon to get the penalty because it got us back in the game.
"The referee was in a better position than I was to see it.
"It's a very difficult decision for him to make, he's probably done the right thing."
