Preview: Bulls vs Macclesfield

The Bulls entertain Macclesfield on Tuesday night in a League Two match at Edgar Street.

With the sides occupying two of the bottom three spots in the early table, it's a bit ridiculous - in August - to be calling this a relegation six-pointer. Back in May the Bulls' trip to Moss Rose was almost that, with Jamie Pitman's men surviving only the week before. That day's 1-1 draw saw Michael Townsend sent off and a final appearance in a Bulls shirt for Waide Fairhurst, who made a switch to the Silkmen in the summer.

The Bulls will be looking to open both their points and goalscoring accounts with a positive result against Macclesfield. The main question on people's minds after Saturday's game was why Pitman opted to change a winning side. The return of Townsend to the centre of defence seemed to unsettle the back four with Ryan Green also returned to the right back role. The 20 minute return on Saturday of Nicky Featherstone will give Pitman more options to consider after an often bright passing display was ruined by some glaring individual errors.

Gary Simpson's Silkmen will have to wait until the day to work out who is fit to face the Bulls. With Fairhurst currently on the injured list, Simpson gave fellow former Bulls striker John Grant a debut substitute appearance in Saturday's 2-0 loss at Crawley. His appearance failed to ignite their forward line, with them failing to register a shot on target over the course of the game. Like the Bulls their resources are limited by their finances, with just 1,566 watching their opening match with Dagenham.

Hereford United vs Macclesfield Town, Edgar Street, Tuesday 16th August, 7.45pm.
