The popular summer camp hosted by Hay St. Marys has had a helping hand over the past week, from Hereford United's Football in the Community. Jamie Edwards, who heads up the campaign, was contacted by Jay Probert of Hay. St Mary's to see if they'd be able to help out with the camp, which attracts over 100 children.
Over the course of the five days, 103 children aged between 7 and 13 were coached by Edwards, and his team of six Junior Coaches. Former Bulls' defender, and Saints coach Gareth Davies was also involved.
The budding youngsters were involved in a number of training activities, with mini drills, four on four, and larger six on six games. There was also a skill challenge, with the winner set to show off their talents at half-time when Gillingham visit Edgar Street.
Davies was particularly pleased with the contribution by the Football in the Community staff and stated that the week had been very successful. In the future, Davies hopes to establish a link between the South Powys Junior Football leagues, and Hereford United, in order for budding stars to get an opportunity with the club. Hay have had a number of youngsters trial out for the Junior Bulls, with several getting into the squads.
Davies is hoping that Hay and Hereford will once again join forces in the October half-term, with a 2/3 day course being planned.
