Supporters Direct (SD) are holding urgent talks after their funding was withdrawn.
The group assists supporters to set up Trusts and get involved in the ownership of their clubs, but a Twitter outburst from their chief executive Dave Boyle appears to have cost them around £600,000 a year from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF).
Boyle made a number of comments on the social networking site in the wake of AFC Wimbledon's promotion. The 'crude and offensive' messages have been removed, and Boyle has apologised, but the FSIF have pulled their promised funding for the next three years after being dissatisfied at the organisation's response.
The FSIF have stated that the money due to SD will now be available for fans group to apply for funding directly from them. SD are to hold a board meeting tomorrow and will make a statement afterwards.
