Preview: Bulls vs Northampton

The Bulls entertain Northampton on Tuesday night for a League Two match.

The two sides were due to meet in late December but fell foul of heavy frost and snow. It is the return fixture for that 4-3 win at Sixfields that saw the Pitman revolution begin. Cobblers striker Leon Mackenzie scored a first-half hat-trick but a half time chat from the rookie boss produced a dynamic second half display. The Cobblers are defending a five match winning run at Edgar Street stretching back 15 years when Tony James (the other one) scored the only goal the last time the Bulls secured the home win.

The Bulls could really do with a home win after three disappointing home matches that have produced only two points and two home goals. The crowd were audibly confused, bordering on the hostile, about some of the substitutions on Saturday. Harry Pell was later revealed to have a tight hamstring, while Stuart Fleetwood had a throat infection. Despite the disappointment of the goalless scoreline, it was the first time the Bulls had kept two successive clean sheets all season.

The Cobblers come to Edgar Street with only two of the four ex-Bulls to feature for them this season. Departed are Steve Guinan and Craig King, leaving Nathaniel Wedderburn and Dean Beckwith to face their former employers. While their home form is one of the best in League Two, with the Bulls one of only two sides to escape Sixfields with all three points, away from home they have relegation form, with only one win in their last six trips although they are unbeaten in six home and away. They may face the Bulls without their top two strikers. Shaun Harrard is to serve a three match ban for violent conduct, while Leon Mackenzie's ongoing fitness problems will likely see him miss out.

Hereford United vs Northampton Town, Edgar Street, Tuesday 22nd February, 7.45pm.
